The Opportunity

The Controls Systems Installer Level I - must have basic construction site experience, be willing to work in unfinished buildings with basic hand tools and possesses a valid driver’s license.  Level II - requires all of Level I requirements as well as a starting base knowledge of controls, mechanical and electrical systems.  Level III - possesses all of Level I and II requirements and has the skills and knowledge of how to install controllers, components, and systems with minor support.  All Levels must have good communication skills, be self-motivated and eager to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Pulls and secures wire between controllers and devices
  • Mounts control devices such as temperature sensors and actuators
  • Mounts panels and panel components
  • Terminates wire at controllers and control devices
  • Performs simple conduit work such as straight conduit stub-ups through ceiling grid from a panel or conduit stubs through a wall
  • Able to explain basic low-voltage wiring principles
  • Uses a meter for simple troubleshooting and can understand simple wiring diagrams
  • Works independently on assigned tasks and reports back to Supervisor or Peers on issues that prevented work from being completed
  • Jobsite cleanup
  • Completes documentation including timesheets and project notes

Level Descriptions

  • Level I – Candidate requires supervision and support to perform tasks.  Primarily helps with pulling wire, installing field devices, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Level II – Candidate requires some support with moderate level tasks such as mounting controllers and terminating wires on controllers and field devices.  Can install control wiring and some field devices without consistent support. 
  • Level III – Candidate requires less support on basic installation tasks and possesses a basic knowledge of control systems.  Can install and terminate controls on unitary equipment with little support and can troubleshoot installation on basic controls circuitry.

Qualifications

The Required Profile

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 0-3 years of experience working in construction, controls, HVAC, or similar industry preferred
  • Ability to understand and comply to jobsite and company safety requirements
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and a desire to learn
  • Ability to take direction for specific tasks
  • Demonstrates mechanical aptitude and basic hand tool skills
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Must have a Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record and be 25 years of age for insurance purposes
  • Basic computer skills required (Outlook, Word, Excel)

 

Other Skills/Abilities

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mental stamina for problem solving and prioritizing multiple tasks.

 

Environmental Requirements

Will be required to work in a field environment, multiple customer sites on a daily basis.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is continually required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
